Diamond stud earrings are a classic. Up there with the Tiffany bracelet and Pandora jewellery, these exquisite diamonds are as popular as ever.

As far as our favourite celebrities go, Eva Longoria has been seen sporting a stunning pair of these sparklers, as has the actress, Katie Holmes, model, Natalia Vodianova, singers, Mariah Carey and Rihanna.

How to Buy the Best
Of course, it's all about the diamond. The weight of the diamond and the setting you choose, will determine the overall look of the diamond studs. Earrings will either sit flat on the earlobe or droop downwards. When you invest in a pair of stunning diamonds, you will want to ensure that they look perfect when worn.

Any setting for diamonds of this weight will be perfect and they will sit beautifully on the earlobe.

However, diamonds of one carat or higher, need very careful consideration when it comes to the setting of the diamond. There are three settings My Diamonds would advise and they are shown below.

The Crown Style Setting
The crown style setting pushes the weight of the diamond forward, sometimes causing the earring to droop downwards in the earlobe. The crown style setting is a gold cup with a brim that is cut with ovals. This then extends into the four prongs that secure the diamond in the setting.

The Basket Style Setting
The diamond stud is mounted in a basket setting, giving more balance to the earring. This means that the stud points more or less forward, displaying more of the diamond. The basket setting is not solid. It is an open wire design which represents a hoop at the bottom with four prong wires to hold the stone. When choosing a basket setting, the diamond will be set low in the basket, keeping the diamond close to the earlobe, to give a perfect fit.

The Martini Style Setting
This setting is possibly the best for diamond stud earrings. The culet of the diamond, the back, rests close to the earlobe. In this setting, the diamond sits straight forward, so giving a neat well fitted look. Bearing in mind that the diamond is the most important part of this jewellery, the martini setting shows the diamond off to it's full beauty and sparkle, because more of the diamond is on show. Holding this setting with the post downwards, gives the impression of a martini glass, hence it's name. If you have decided on a larger diamond for your studs, then this setting should be seriously considered.

| Of course, you may decide that a round, brilliant cut of stud is not your style and would like to choose something different.
