Top Ten Most Expensive Diamonds - No. 10 'The Allnatt Diamond'

Today, we start our count down of the world's top ten most expensive diamonds.  Women love diamonds - fact.  And diamonds are ageless.  It doesn't matter whether you're a young woman just about to choose your precious diamond engagement ring, or a mature lady who has collected diamond jewellery - engagement ring, diamond wedding band, diamond earrings and diamond pendents over the years.

Diamonds are still the gem of choice for most of us - and why wouldn't they be? Diamonds have been chosen to represent love for centuries, but we mustn't forget that they're also a top investment.

Only recently, the news is that the value of diamonds will increase rapidly over the next few years, so diamonds are truly a 'beautiful investment.' Here is Number 10 in our top ten most expensive diamonds in the world - the Allnatt Diamond worth $3 million.

This superb cushion cut diamond is known as the Allnatt Diamond.  a vivid yellow fancy coloured diamond, it weighs 20.258 grams with 101.29 carats.

Some believe this stunning diamond was discovered in the De Beers Premier Diamond Mine and purchased by a Major Alfred Ernest Allnatt - a sportsman, art patron and benefactor.

The diamond was resold in 1996 by Christie's in Geneva for $3,043,496. After being sold to the SIBA Corporation, the diamond was cut to its current weight, intensifying its vivid colour.

The Allnatt was displayed as part of the Smithsonian's "The Splendour of Diamonds" exhibit.
