Engagement Rings

Side Stone engagement rings.

Diamond type

Side diamonds change the maths. A 1ct centre with 0.4ct of pavé reads bigger than a 1.4ct solitaire, and costs less than a 1.2ct. You're trading absolute carat weight for visual carat weight, and on most fingers that's the better trade.

We use diamond melee in the same quality bracket as our centre stones. F to G colour, VS clarity, hand-set under magnification by our master jeweller in our Australian workshop. Cheap pavé is the fastest way to age a beautiful ring, so we don't go there.

Pair any setting in this collection with the centre diamond you want. The price you see is the starting point. Add or change the centre to match your budget, and the maths still works.

Buying Guide

Everything you need to know about side stone engagement rings.

Side stone settings add sparkle, dimension, and character to your engagement ring. The type of setting — whether pavé, channel, or prong — affects both the look and durability of the ring. Pavé settings create a continuous shimmer, channel settings offer a sleek protected row of diamonds, and prong settings allow maximum light entry for brilliant sparkle. Our master jewellers will help you choose the perfect configuration to complement your centre stone and lifestyle.

What are the different types of side stone settings?

The most common side stone settings are pavé (tiny diamonds set closely together across the band), channel (diamonds set between two metal walls), and prong (individual diamonds held by small metal claws). Each style creates a distinct look — pavé offers continuous shimmer, channel provides a sleek modern finish, and prong settings maximise light entry. Your choice depends on your aesthetic preference and lifestyle.

What is the difference between channel-set and pavé diamonds?

Channel-set diamonds sit within a groove in the band, protected by the metal walls on either side, making them an excellent choice for active lifestyles. Pavé diamonds are held by tiny prongs or beads and sit closer to the surface, creating a more delicate, sparkling effect. Both styles are beautiful — channel settings prioritise durability while pavé maximises brilliance.

How is total carat weight calculated with side stones?

Total carat weight (TCW) includes the centre stone plus all accent diamonds in the setting. For example, a ring with a 1-carat centre stone and 0.30 carats of side diamonds would have a TCW of 1.30 carats. We clearly list both the centre stone carat weight and TCW for every ring, so you always know exactly what you're getting.

Are side stone engagement rings durable?

When expertly crafted, side stone rings are highly durable and suitable for everyday wear. Channel settings are the most robust as the diamonds are fully protected by the metal walls. Pavé settings require a little more care, as the tiny prongs can wear over time. We recommend professional inspections every six months at our showrooms to ensure all stones remain secure.

Do side stones significantly increase the cost of an engagement ring?

Side stones add modest cost compared to upgrading the centre diamond, yet they dramatically increase the overall sparkle and visual impact of the ring. The additional investment depends on the number, size, and quality of the accent diamonds. Many of our clients find that side stones offer exceptional value for the added brilliance they provide.
